All Full-time positions start above a Living Wage, as calculated for Cortland County by the MIT Living Wage Calculator.

At Hollenbeck’s Cider Mill every job’s first and foremost duty is to clean and sanitize, all other duties follow from that.

1. Seasonal Full-time Cider Production and Apple Processing Assistant

This job entails activities involved with baking in a commercial kitchen, in cider production, and apple processing.  All baked goods are made from scratch following documented recipes. Cider production involves assembly, maintenance, use, and cleaning of unique Victorian era equipment. This job also includes processing of fresh apples for pie production, which entails running our apple peeler & slicer, a complex piece of manufacturing equipment that requires assembly, maintenance, and cleaning. For this job, you must have good organizational skills, attention to detail, concentration, and ability to maintain all during repetitive tasks.

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Follow recipes and detailed instructions

  • Operate equipment including, but not limited to, apple peeler & slicer, cider press and associated equipment, pie shell press, dough sheeter, ovens, etc.

  • Organize and plan schedule to complete customer orders as requested

  • Take orders over the phone, completing all sections of order form

  • Clean and maintain all tools, utensils, and equipment

  • Clean and maintain all food prep surfaces, counters, and floors ensuring appropriate sanitizing procedures are followed

  • Customer service and product stocking

  • Inventory tracking

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Able to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends as required

    • Primary work week: Saturday-Wednesday

  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently

  • Physical endurance to stand for entire shift

  • Self-motivated and self-directed

  • Able to work well as part of a team and on an individual basis

  • Physically able to move during the length of the shift; able to bend and lift 50 pounds or more

PREFERRED:

  • Previous experience as a cook, chef, baker, in manufacturing, customer service or other relevant work experience

  • Knowledge of sanitation procedures and State health and safety precautions and regulations

PAY RANGE: $22-30/hour commensurate with experience

2. Assistant Donut Maker

This job entails all activities involved with the production of donuts, assisting the primary donut maker. Donut production occurs primarily Friday-Sunday, but this position could be full-time with 2-3 days of work per week in the bakery and/or apple processing. For this job, you must have excellent manual dexterity, attention to detail, and an appreciation for precision.

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Read and follow recipes

  • Operate equipment including donut fryer, mixers, scales, thermometers, etc.

  • Take orders over the phone, completing all sections of order form

  • Clean and maintain all donut making equipment

  • Clean and maintain all donut room surfaces, counters, and floors ensuring appropriate sanitizing procedures are followed

  • Customer service and product stocking

  • Inventory tracking

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Able to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends as required

    • Primary work days: Saturday & Sunday, with the option to bring hours up to full time with work in the bakery and/or apple processing

  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently

  • Physical endurance to stand for entire shift

  • Self-motivated and self-directed

  • Work well as part of a team and on an individual basis

  • Physically able to move during the length of the shift; able to bend and lift 50 pounds or more

  • NYS Department of Labor will not allow anyone younger than 16 to operate certain donut making equipment. 

PREFERRED:

  • Previous experience as a cook, chef, baker, in manufacturing, laboratory, customer service, or other relevant work experience

  • Knowledge of sanitation procedures and State health and safety precautions and regulations

PAY RANGE: $22-30/hour commensurate with experience
